My name is Minna; I’m an Occupational Therapist in the Assistive Technology Services Team. I cover the Midwest region of WA as part of ILC’s country service.
In my last trip we drove further north and visited Denham and Carnarvon from November 22nd to December 1st 2016. It was a long drive up to Shark Bay, but worth it to meet with the lovely folks from Denham Seniors and members of the public at the Shark Bay Community Resource Centre. We discussed services that the Independent Living Centre provides and also assistive equipment and technology that would help in their lives such as the Seat Belt Easy Reach, walking sticks and adapted gardening tools such as Ratchet Secateurs and tools with built up handles that are easy to grip.
We spent the rest of the trip in Carnarvon. In Carnarvon we met with staff from local service providers such Carnarvon Hospital, home care agencies, the medical centre, and equipment suppliers. We met with members of the public at the Carnarvon Central Shopping Centre, the Gascoyne Memorial Units, Carnarvon Civic Centre Christmas Markets and the Carnarvon Senior Citizen’s Centre. This was a great opportunity to meet and network with people needing assistive equipment and technology and their families in this community.
Our next trip to the Midwest will be further east to Mount Magnet, Meekathara, Cue, Wiluna, Yalgoo, Mullewa and Geraldton in May this year. Jurien Bay will also be visited.
