Individuals eligible for a communication device funded through Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP) and NDIS are eligible for CAEP AAC Consultancy and Refurbishment Program Services. These services include;

  • Specialist speech pathology information and advice for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) options
  • Hire of communication devices through ILC Hire
  • Option to retain eligible ILC Hire communication devices
  • Access to refurbished communication equipment
  • Specialist speech pathology support to program and troubleshoot communication devices

Communication device hire

ILC Hire has a range of equipment available for hire to support communication device trials required to apply for CAEP or NDIS funding. Hire of equipment incurs a fee. Funding may be sought from CAEP or NDIS to cover hire fees.

Retention of ILC hire communication devices (trial and keep)

Through the CAEP AAC Consultancy and Refurbishment Program options are available for retaining equipment. Individuals are eligible to opt into retaining the hire communication device (including those self-funding or accessing funding through CAEP and NDIS). This allows continuity of access to the device throughout the funding process.

Secondhand equipment available for purchase

CAEP AAC refurbishment program:

The CAEP AAC Refurbishment program administered by the Independent Living Centre WA is for the refurbishment and re-issuing of communication devices. These devices are available for longer term hire and purchase.

Ex demonstration/ hire equipment:

This equipment includes devices purchased through the  CAEP AAC Consultancy Porgram for use by ILC therapists for demonstration purposes or use in the ILC Hire library.

Individual support

CAEP eligible individuals
The CAEP AAC Consultancy and Refurbishment program offers CAEP Eligible individuals additional specialist speech pathology support for individuals and their teams who are trialling communication devices through ILC Hire. Support services available include;

  • Support to assess and trial communication devices
  • Support to setup and program communication devices
  • Support to troubleshoot technical issues whilst a device is on trial

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Participants
NDIS participants may be eligible to access additional support services including comprehensive AAC assessment, prescription, funding application and training through the Independent Living Centre if support is included in their NDIS plan. Individuals could discuss with their local coordinator or planner the inclusion of single focused AAC supports through Specific Therapy Services. Workshops
