The ILC, in partnership with the City of Wanneroo and Satterley, will host a free Carers Community Expo on Thursday 3 April from 12noon to 3pm at the Butler Community Centre.
The event will offer carers throughout Perth’s northern suburbs the opportunity to learn about local community and carer respite services and to enjoy some socialising with other carers over some refreshments.
To be officially opened by the Mayor of the City of Wanneroo Tracey Roberts, the Expo will feature a range of exhibits by 30 local organisations. Attendees will have access to the latest information on rapidly changing community programs and respite services across the north metropolitan region.
> Find out about respite; safe driving and navigating services
> Learn about funding options; multicultural care
> Explore technology and carer services
> Enjoy talking to other carers and service providers over a sausage sizzle and refreshments
> Plus much more
The event is targeted at carers who provide care and support for a family member or friend.
ILC Executive Director Gerri Clay said that with over 2.5 million Australians providing care for family members or friends, and with this number set to keep on growing, it is important that carers are aware of the support that is available for them to enable them to continue in their carer role.
“Many carers are tired, need a break, don’t look after themselves properly, may struggle financially and often feel isolated.
“It’s important that carers get the assistance they need to be able to sustain their caring responsibilities, maintain their health and wellbeing and participate in family, social and community life, employment and education.
“The Independent Living Centre provides services for carers on a daily basis and the aim of this Expo is to make people more aware of the range of carer services available not only through the ILC but also through other organisations in the north metropolitan area,” said Ms Clay.
