Big Day Out for Carers a great success
The Independent Living Centre, in partnership with the City of Stirling, hosted a Big Day Out for Carers on 14 October at the Scarborough Community Centre.
In celebration of Carers Week, the event offered over 180 carers the opportunity to learn about local community and carer respite services and to enjoy some recreational activities, entertainment and socialising.
Officially opened by the Mayor of the City of Stirling Councillor David Boothman, the Big Day Out featured a range of exhibits and presentations by 35 local organisations. Attendees had access to the latest information on rapidly changing community programs and respite services across the north metropolitan region.
Organisations who participated in the event included Carers WA, Red Cross, Alzheimer’s WA, Workpower, Ishar, Headspace, Continence WA and Autism West, to name a few.
In addition to being an informative and educational event, the Big Day Out provided a well deserved fun day out for carers with singers, Chuang Wah dancers, a laughter session and free catering at the event.
