ILC Occupational Therapist Simone Collins said it was not uncommon for people visiting the ILC to ask questions about sexual issues that come with ageing and seek help with solutions.
Speaking to Neale Prior for the ‘Your Money’ lift-out in The West Australian recently this article highlights that sex is part of an overall human need for intimacy and affection; and information and advice on sexual aids, just like all other assistive technology, is available at the ILC.
Simone explored assistive equipment for sexual activity further in an interview on 6PR and also featured in an AT Chat video on ‘Aids for Physical Intimacy and Positioning’.
At the ILC our experienced health professionals help people to choose and access equipment and technology for their independence and wellbeing. Sex can be a huge part of a person’s wellness, so being able to provide information on sexual aids is just as important as providing information on mobility equipment, for example. Our staff are trained to do this.
We have a range of sexual aids on display at our centres in Nedlands and Cockburn. We also have an online National Equipment Database, located at askned.com.au, which has thousands of assistive equipment items on it, including a section on sexual aids.
