Hi everybody my name is Amanda Hudson, Occupational Therapist in the Assistive equipment team. I cover the Great Southern area of WA.
I love being a part of the country team that offers our service to people who live in a regional areas.
In February this year I travelled down to Albany via Gnowangerup and Katanning. Setting up the caravan outside the shire offices at Gnowangerup and outside the hospital in Katanning, where I also delivered a presentation to a group of seniors. We had a lively discussion about scooters and people where genuinely interested in our service. After the presentation the group visited the caravan outside where they were able to look at items of assistive equipment to help them stay as independent as possible
The last few days of the trip were spent doing appointments with therapists in the hospital, community or the homes of their clients. I feel privileged to be able to assist with this aspect of the country service it’s great to be able to take items with me for the people to trial in their own environment. It’s also good to visit with local suppliers in Albany who always make me feel welcome.
Next trip will be in November for the Albany Show although I don’t think we will be joined this year by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
