Tech accent 800Individuals eligible for a communication device funded through Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP) and NDIS are eligible for CAEP AAC Consultancy Services. These services include options for retaining eligible ILC hire communication devices, specialist support during trials and workshops.

Trial & Keep

*Please note that clients in NDIA (Midland/ Perth Hills) trial site are not eligible for trial and keep*

The trial and keep process for hiring and purchasing devices is optional. Dynamic display AAC devices and basic accessories are eligible for trial and keep. Equipment such as iPads and communication device mounting are not eligible for trial and keep.

If the prescribing therapist (primary Speech Pathologist) and the individual with complex communication needs choose to go through the trial and keep process the prescribing therapist will need to follow the appropriate process outlined below.


Secondhand equipment available for purchase

CAEP AAC Refurbishment Program:

This program offers refurbished used and ex-demonstration  devices for long term trial and purchase.

Ex Demonstration/ Hire Equipment:

This equipment includes devices purchased through the  CAEP AAC Consultancy Porgram for use by ILC therapists for demonstration purposes or use in the ILC Hire library.

The CAEP AAC Consultancy and Refurbishment program offers additional specialist Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) support for clients, families and therapists who are trialling communication devices with their clients through ILC Hire. Clients using AAC throughout WA including NDIS trial sites are able to access this service.

Services that clients and therapists can access through this program include;

  • Support for the primary speech pathologist in assessing and trialling AAC devices with their client
  • Support for the primary speech pathologist, client and family to setup and program AAC devices
  • Support for primary therapists, clients and key stakeholders troubleshooting technical issues whilst a device is on trial
  • Information on where to access support around WA and interstate suppliers
  • Handouts and resources via the ILC website, Communication Supports & Resources
