The Independent Living Centre of WA (ILC) administers the Disability Equipment Grants (DEG) program which provides grants for specific assistive technology / equipment to assist West Australian individuals with permanent disabilities.

How and where we can help
Grants are available for a range of assistive technology / equipment to support people with disabilities living in WA. Items considered for funding is regularly reviewed to ensure that the program keeps pace with changing needs and priorities for people with disabilities and new developments in technology.
Assistive technology / equipment currently supported include:

Vehicle Modifications:
Grants up to $7,500 are available to assist with equipment such as modified driving controls, wheelchair hoists, wheelchair / scooter carriers, and specially modified wheelchair accessible vehicles.

Assistive Technology (AT) for people with a vision impairment
Grants of up to $5,000 are available to assist with hardware or software that magnifies produces spoken output or presents information as Braille for other tactile formats.

Assistive Technology (AT) for people with a communication impairment
Grants up to $5,000 to assist with AT such as communication devices for personal safety including alarms and specialised computer hardware or software.

Air Conditioners
A grant of up to $1,500 ($1,800 in regional areas) may be available to assist with one air conditioner to provide one area of respite for a person unable to regulate their body temperature (thermoregulatory dysfunction) because of their disability and is on low income (Level 1 only)
Essential Independence Equipment (New)
Grants are available to support people with long term disabilities living at home with essential equipment not currently available through any other government funding programs. Items such as electrically adjustable beds, wheelchairs, hoists, specialised seating and personal hygiene equipment will be considered.
Who we can Help (eligibility)
Grants are provided to West Australian individuals with permanent disabilities who meet eligibility criteria. The program is income assessed. Please refer to the DEG Information & Guidelines for more details.
