Meeting consumers’ needs in a world of choice and control

Gerri ClayConsumer-directed care and choice is the prominent feature of the new disability, aged and community care service models throughout Australia. It is therefore essential that organisations operating within these sectors are providing services for individuals that meet their specific and individualised needs.

At the Independent Living Centre WA (ILC) it is our aim that our services are relevant to the people we serve today and into the future. It is our commitment that we will continually change and adapt where it means that our services are improved and the experience we deliver to customers is of the highest quality. We will take advantage of new technologies, we will take on board expectations of customers and we will embrace the challenges that the future brings us.

 Our new vision for 2027 is for people to reach their goals to live independent and full lives through easy access to community allied health services, the right assistive technology and home modification solutions.

To achieve this 10-year vision the ILC Board, management and staff have recently outlined strategic goals and projects that will be undertaken over the coming years, as well as redefined our organisation’s purpose and our values, which I am pleased to share with you.

At ILC, our purpose is to support all individuals, including people with disability, those who are ageing, their families and carers to live full and independent lives. We do this by providing individuals with allied health solutions and the right assistive technology that enables them to live in good health and independently at home and in the community. Our passion and motivation comes from making a real difference to individuals’ lives.

Our values are:

Integrity: Working, behaving, speaking and listening with honesty and truthfulness.
 Passion: Going the extra mile because we believe in what we do.
 Respect:  Valuing people and embracing their individual or unique qualities.
 Collaboration: Building relationships, sharing knowledge and ideas.
 Innovation: Seeking creative solutions and opportunities, having confidence to think differently and have a go.
 Responsible: Being reliable and accountable and doing as you say you will do.

The ILC strives to continue as a centre of excellence for assistive technology and home modification solutions nationwide and to further develop our allied health services in Western Australia to continue to add value to people’s lives.

We have confidence that by keeping our purpose top of mind and through living and breathing our new values we will achieve this.

We look forward to working alongside individuals, our colleagues, funders, suppliers and other service providers throughout our journey ahead.
